There’s so much more to explore.

Since August, Harry Potter fans have had time to absorb the news that HBO will be producing a reboot about the famous boy wizard in the form of an in-depth TV series. The new show is slated to re-imagine the original source material written by J.K. Rowling and will be filmed and streamed over the course of the next decade.

However, fans have mixed feelings about this huge undertaking and are concerned. What will it look like? Will it be more faithful to the books than the movies? And perhaps the biggest question of all — is there really a need to reboot Harry Potter’s story?

However, amidst these reboot discussions, an ever-growing number of devoted fans have also posed an interesting query: Among the expansive Wizarding World, could there be untapped narratives to explore instead? The Harry Potter series offered deep insight into many characters, uncovering the rich possibilities and envisioning the captivating stories that are begging to be told.

Will fans be able to sway HBO to transfigure their focus to something different? Here are three other ideas that would make a better TV series instead of a Harry Potter reboot:

The Founders’ Legacy and Building Hogwarts

Anyone who’s read or watched Harry Potter knows about the four founding members of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. This series would transport viewers to a time long before the events in Harry Potter, showcasing the challenges and triumphs these extraordinary witches and wizards faced in establishing the esteemed magical institution in the Scottish highlands.

The founders’ series could offer a rich exploration of each of their unique personalities, motivations, and of course, conflicts. Fans would witness the struggles to unite their diverse perspectives and overcome external threats would provide a compelling narrative, rich with drama and suspense.

The Untold Story of the Mauraders

The Marauders, a group of friends consisting of James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew, have long fascinated Harry Potter fans. The untold story of these four friends would chronicle their time at Hogwarts and explore their mischievous adventures, loyalty to Lupin (following the other three’s journeys into becoming Anamgai,) and the relationships that ultimately shaped their destinies.

This series would offer a new perspective to the Wizarding World because it would showcase the complexities of friendship, young love, and the challenges faced by a generation growing up amidst the rise of dark forces. The Marauders’ encounters with werewolves, their involvement in the Order of the Phoenix, and the tragic events leading to dark times in the Wizarding World would provide a poignant and emotionally charged narrative.

Voldemort’s Dark Origins Explored

Lord Voldemort is a primary example of a villain with a truly captivating origin story. As viewers could delve into the enigmatic past of one of literature’s most iconic villains, this series would explore the early life of Tom Riddle, tracing his transformation from a troubled orphan to the infamous Dark Wizard.

Voldemort’s past sheds light on the influences and experiences that shaped his descent into evil. Audiences would witness the formation of his Horcruxes, his manipulation of others, and the gradual erosion of his humanity. This dark and gripping narrative could provide a psychological exploration of the nature of evil and the consequences of choices made.

More Than a Series

The Wizarding World offers fans a vast array of untapped narratives waiting to be explored on the small screen. With rich character development, intricate storylines, and the opportunity to delve into unexplored eras and themes, fresh ideas for a new series have the potential to hook in captivate audiences and keep the magic of the Wizarding World alive for years to come.
